Andrea Mannucci, composer, pianist, and orchestra conductor

Born in Pontremoli in 1960, he studied piano, composition, and orchestra conducting at the Parma Conservatory under the guidance of Camillo Togni, Piero Guarino, and Antonello Allemandi. He further honed his skills under the mentorship of Franco Donatoni and Salvatore Sciarrino. A pivotal moment in shaping his musical style was his encounter with Aldo Clementi, who introduced him at the Pontino Festival in 1986 with the Sextet for Strings.

His compositions are published by the Suvini Zerboni publishing house in Milan and include over 80 titles spanning chamber music, choral works, symphonic pieces, and operas.

  • "MORO," a tragic opera in one act, Paris 2011, conducted by Andrea Battistoni. "MATTEO 26" for a large symphony orchestra, Verona 2015, conducted by Robert Tuohy, commissioned by the Arena di Verona Foundation.
  • "PREGHIERA" for a chamber orchestra, Padua 2016, conducted by Claudio Scimone, performed by I Solisti Veneti. "IL PRINCIPIO DELLA MALINCONIA" a concerto for violin, string orchestra, and timpani, Brescia 2017, with Giovanni Cardaropoli as violin soloist, conducted by Alessandro Bonato.
  • "LA FIGLIA DELLA MEMORIA" a concerto for a string orchestra, commissioned by RAI Turin in 2022, performed by I Cameristi dell'OSN RAI with violin soloist Alessandro Milani.
  • "TRA CARNE E CIELO" a profane oratorio based on texts by Pier Paolo Pasolini for 2 lyrical voices, a narrator, and a large ensemble, commissioned for the Florence Summer Festival 2022 in collaboration with the Iamo Ensemble, conducted by Francesco Gesualdi.
  • "VESPRO UNIVERSALE" a sacred cantata for 2 soprano voices, a narrator, choir, and orchestra based on texts by Papa Francesco, November 2022, at the Papal Church of San Giovanni in Laterano, Rome.

His compositions have been performed and broadcasted in Italy and abroad, and they have been featured in prestigious events and festivals, including Nuova Consonanza Roma, Musica Nel Nostro Tempo Milano, Festival Musica d'Oggi, Musica Presente Milano, Musica 9OO' Cremona, Nuove Traiettorie Parma, Roma Europa Festivals Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Rotterdam de Unie, Muziekcentrum Vredenburg, Tage Neuer Kammermusik Braunschweig, North/South Consonance series 1994 New York, Théatre Rive Gauche Paris, Wellington New Zealand, Guantanamo Cuba, Tepoztlán Mexico, Turku Finland, Omaha Nebraska, among others.

He has received commissions from Divertimento Ensemble, Festival Pontino, Nuova Consonanza Roma, Milano Musica nel nostro tempo, Milano Percussion Ensemble, Quartetto Arditti, Quartetto Egon, Orchestra d'archi Risonanza, Gruppo Strumentale "Musica d'Oggi," Solisti Veneti, Gli Ottoni di Verona, Società Umanitaria Milano, Orchestra di Padova e Bergamo, Orchestra Cantelli, Orchestra del Festival Pianistico di Brescia e Bergamo, Orchestra della Fondazione Arena di Verona, Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo, Ascho Choir, Atelier de Création lyrique "Appel d'Airs," and New Ensemble di Amsterdam.

He teaches composition at the "Dall'Abaco" Conservatory in Verona and is a member of the board of the SIMC (Società Italiana di Musica Contemporanea).

From 2012 to 2018, he served as the Artistic Director of the "Città di Desenzano" Concert Season. In 2008, he founded and directed the NED Ensemble, an instrumental and vocal group dedicated to promoting contemporary music. With this ensemble, he conducted over 50 premieres, many of which were dedicated to him and his ensemble by renowned Italian and international composers, including Ennio Morricone, Giacomo Manzoni, Aldo Clementi, Francesco Valdambrini, Mauro Montalbetti, Carlo Galante, Riccardo Panfili, Allen Molineux, Mats O Hansson, Andrian Pertout, and others.

He collaborates with the Kairòs of Verona and is the Artistic Director, alongside mezzo-soprano Paola Fornasari Patti, of the Festival delle Arti contemporanee di Verona, a multimedia stage for contemporary creativity. Notable are the monographic concerts dedicated to prominent figures in today's music, including Alessandro Solbiati, Fabrizio De Rossi Re, Marco Betta, Michele Dall'Ongaro, and Nicola Sani.

He has been invited as a guest conductor by Italian and foreign institutions and has conducted prominent soloists such as Anna Serova, Francesca Dego, Maurizio Sciarretta, Jitka Hosprovà, Peter Szanto, Nair, Anna Loro, and others.
